Josh Suskewicz, Manager

Meet Josh

Josh is a manager at Innosight where he has worked on consulting engagements in numerous industries, specializing in cleantech and healthcare. Much of his work has focused on identifying high potential whitespace opportunities, accelerating the development of promising emerging technologies, and guiding the creation of new business models. Josh co-authored an article in the Harvard Business Review on accelerating innovation in cleantech and has also written for a textbook on innovation and Forbes.com.

Before joining Innosight in 2005, Josh served as a research analyst covering emerging technologies in the alternative energy, clean technology, and sustainable development sectors. He has also worked as a researcher/writer for Let’s Go Travel Guides and as a research assistant for a think tank focused on Middle Eastern history and politics. Josh holds an honors degree in English Literature from Harvard College.

Most Memorable Innosight Moment

My first business trip was to South Africa, where I got to work on a project aimed at tailoring modern services to meet the unique needs of historically disadvantaged populations in the developing world. That was certainly memorable—as was the time, on that same trip, when I found myself face to face with an elephant drinking from the hotel pool.

Favorite Innovation

Solar power. All of our energy comes from the sun in one form or another; the magic of silicon and other photovoltaic materials makes the process more direct, and much cleaner. We are just now seeing a major ramp up in solar energy production, as solar power plants go up in Europe and California and rooftop arrays pop up on stores and houses as far north as chilly Boston. Meanwhile, next generation technologies are on the verge of market viability; before long electricity-generating solar cells will be integrated into things like building materials, textiles, and electronic devices. Ongoing product, service, and business model innovations are bringing us closer and closer to the ultimate promise of solar power – cheap, portable, clean, and nearly ubiquitous energy.
