Pacemakers with Purpose
Curtis Lefrandt, Associate
"Just a few months after starting at Innosight as a new Analyst, I was placed on a project working with a healthcare client looking to grow their business in emerging markets. I suddenly found myself working on the ground with our team in India to provide lifesaving medical devices to people who had never been able to afford quality healthcare.
"We created an entirely new business model that encompassed everything from diagnosis and patient education to financial solutions that made care affordable. In fact, we helped develop and implement the world's first consumer financing program for medical devices. We were able to literally save lives while creating a sustainable, profitable business model—one that our client is now expanding into other markets.
"The results were meaningful on many levels. I worked with one family with very little financial means where the mother was experiencing severe blackouts and didn't know why. We were able to help her get diagnosed, navigate the healthcare system, and secure financing for the pacemaker she needed.
I later had the chance to observe her operation, and it was during moments like this where it really hit home that our work was making a life-or-death difference for this woman and many others in similar situations.
"This is a great example of how the work we do with business model innovation can be a powerful way to drive positive social impact as well as financial growth—in healthcare and many other industries."
